| Gemcom Software International Inc. (TSX:GCM), the largest global supplier of specialised mining productivity solutions, wanted to extend its global reach whilst maintaining its leading market position. It had a two pronged strategy to achieve this goal: increasing the share of its traditional software markets, and establishing a leadership position in the emerging market for enterprise-class Mining Execution Solutions. Needing to maintain its high rate of profitable growth while implementing these strategies, the Gemcom board determined that the flexibility to realize the company’s goals would be difficult to achieve as a stand-alone public company. | ||

| Gemcom retained The Catalyst Group to advise on the possible sale of the company. Catalyst reviewed Gemcom’s business and its market position, and presented Gemcom with a targeted range of potential acquirers. Gemcom was an ideal fit with the investment strategy of JMI Equity, The Carlyle Group and Pala Investment Holdings, who emerged the successful bidder from Catalyst’s auction process. Catalyst also provided a fairness opinion on the transaction to Gemcom’s board. | ||
